Zisha is cast out as an imperfecta on her sixteenth birthday, the day she is mandated by law to be presented to the justry and undergo her first drug-induced revelations. But there’s nothing wrong with Zisha; she’s just deaf, that’s all.
The imperfecta are accused of carrying death-palsy, the disease that nearly wiped out the Plenary Cities only decades before. Zisha and others like her are forced to fend for themselves in the deserts beyond civilization. But in spite of the drastic measures the cities have taken, death-palsy is returning.
And only Zisha stands a chance of stopping it.
